SEARCH-Social and Environmental Action ‘Round Chudleigh

This local network was initiated in October 2015. Some of us felt that if we were members or supporters of a national movement; political, environmental, human rights or similar, we found that everything happens somewhere else, often in Exeter, Totnes, Torquay or Teignmouth. And Chudleigh is a bit too small for separate branches of national organisations to be viable.

We therefore set up an informal group with an interest in environmental issues and social justice. This enables us to discuss things that are important to us, share views and information (and sharing rides to events), mount local campaigns on national issues where appropriate, and take local action where there are gaps.

We aim to organise events and activities to raise awareness and sometimes funds, but to work across a wide range of issues, rather than become a single issue group.

Previous activities include a film showing of "this changes everything" about climate change, talks and discussion events about refugees, fracking and ecobuild/retro fit. (For some of the event powerpoints see below. Note: some of these are very big files) Last Christmas we ran a Bag of Wishes project which enabled us to send £1800 worth of goods to young refugees. We are working with Chudleigh Town Council to make Chudleigh a FairTrade Town and held a FairTrade extravaganza earlier this year. We are well on the way to FairTrade status.

In collaboration with the Film Society we will be showing "Demain" at the Town Hall at 7p.m. on the 24th November 2017. Climate is changing. Instead of showing all the worst that can happen, this documentary focuses on the people suggesting solutions and their actions.

We meet on the third Tuesday of the month at 5pm at Kestor, Highlands Park, Chudleigh TQ13 0JZ. Contact , Tel 01626 852002 or visit for more details.
