What is the bulky waste collection service?
Teignbridge District Council provide a collection service for large or heavy household items, such as fridges or furniture.
This is a chargeable service and must be booked and paid for in advance.
We charge for each item of bulky waste collected.
There is a £21 non-refundable booking fee on all bulky waste collections. Before making a booking please make sure you are certain, this fee is not refundable on cancellation. We are not able to refund if we attempt to make collection and are unable to due to accessibility issues, please be sure to read all the conditions of the bulky waste collection before proceeding
If you are in receipt of council tax reduction (also known as council tax benefit) you may be entitled to a reduction of £8.50 on a fridge/freezer collection.
You will need to supply your benefit reference number (found on your award letter) in order to claim this discount.
This list shows what counts as an item of bulky waste.
We cannot collect:
health and safety access is at the discretion of the contractor (e.g. clear of obstructions, safe access, no steep/slippery steps etc.) and any items deemed unsafe will not be collected.
collections can only be made from domestic households.
collections cannot be made from allotments and small holdings.
house and garden clearances cannot be undertaken.
each household will be charged separately, no joint collections from a street will be made.
items must be able to be lifted by two men with a sack truck.
items must be prepared for collection, e.g. dismantled or uninstalled (contractors do not carry specialist lifting gear, or tools for this) and all items must be empty (e.g. no food in freezers etc.)
small amounts of garden waste can be taken, but must be bagged up and placed at the edge of the property. It will be charged per bag.
carpets are charged per roll or, if cut up charged per bag, and underlay is charged as a separate item.
garden sheds and green houses, no larger than 8ft x 6ft can be taken, but must be dismantled and will be charged as 8 items, i.e. four side panels, door, roof, floor and window glass.
Collections are made by ReFurnish, a charitable organisation that may resell the items they collect if they are suitable.
Collection staff always wear uniform and carry ID.
Please ask for proof of identity before allowing staff onto your property to collect your bulky waste.
