In the dusky September evenings, a diverse series of performances will bring music and laughter to the charming grounds of Chudleigh’s Orchard Cafe in Old Pottery Court. Professional performers from Devon and further afield are set to appear, including:

We are also delighted to announce that Radio 4’s Kit Hesketh-Harvey has just signed on to bring his comedy musical cabaret show to Chudleigh! Kit has appeared on numerous occasions at the Northcott Theatre and is a landmark performer at the Edinburgh Fringe! He has toured with comedienne Joan Rivers, who described him as “the funniest act in his price bracket”!

Festival curator Ian Trafford of Orchard Cafe explains, “Orchard Cafe & Gardens is only a small piece of the picture of our activities, which usually involve numerous theatre productions and events, including staging the annual professional pantomime at Exeter Corn Exchange. We had always planned to stage outdoor shows in the charming walled garden in Old Pottery Court, but as this strange year has turned out, open-air performances are the only hope we have to enjoy live performances for now.”

Ian trained at Central School of Speech & Drama and was a venue manager at the Edinburgh Fringe for ten years and has worked in the entertainment industry for nearly 30 years, producing and directing multiple award-winning shows at the Northcott, Bristol Old Vic, Edinburgh Festival and London venues. Now living with his wife Tanya in Chudleigh, he is delighted that the show can go on. “Of course, we have consulted with the local authorities and are taking steps to ensure we can have a safe festival. Social distancing will be in place for performers and audiences, and all tickets have to be booked in advance so that we can set out seats in “booking bubbles- we expect that most performances can only accommodate 30- 40 people spread appropriately around the garden. The shows are currently rehearsing to maintain social distance, too.”

With professional opera singers, cabaret, children’s theatre, jazz and Shakespeare, we hope there is something for all tastes! There is more information about the shows and performance schedule on our micro-website and Facebook pages. You can also drop in to book in person at Orchard Cafe & Gardens.

Box office for all shows will be run through our website,, with tickets on sale from 1 August 2020.
