Tour of Britain Returns The Tour of Britain Cycle Race is coming to Chudleigh on Friday 9th September, with an estimated arrival time of 2:50pm. This year's race will, for the first time, feature ten of the UCI's WorldTour teams, with the top tier sportsmen making up half the field. This is a world-class line-up of teams entirely befitting the Tour of Britain's continuing growth in stature and importance on the global cycling calendar. Among the participants will be Team Dimension Data, winner of the 2015 Tour of Britain, with Edvald Boasson Hagen and recently-joined, Mark Cavendish. Also racing will be regular Tour of Britain participants Team Sky, Movistar Team, BMC Racing Team and Cannondale Drapac, while Team Giant Alpecin, Orica BikeExchange and Trek Segafredo return, having not competed in 2015. Team WIGGINS will be there and Sir Bradley Wiggins has publically stated he intends to ride the Tour of Britain following his golden success at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics. Two UCI ProContinental teams will be making their Tour of Britain debuts: the Spanish Caja Rural-Serguros RGA team, for whom Preston's Hugh Carthy rides, and the Belgian Wanty-Groupe Gobert team, which includes former SKODA King of the Mountains, Mark McNally. Having won both the Yodel Sprints and SKODA King of the Mountains jerseys with Peter Williams in 2015, ONE Pro Cycling return for their second Tour of Britain, their first as a UCI ProContinental team. So if you want to see some truly worldclass sportsmen for free, make sure you’re in Chudleigh at around 2.30pm on Friday 9th September. As a build up to this great spectacle, there will be music and entertainment from midday on the Town Hall forecourt and around town, involving Mary Marker’s folk music group; Roger Bibbins’ roving jazz trio; Pure Chance belly dancers; and the Newton Bushel morris dancers. In addition, the children of Chudleigh CoE Community Primary School will be presenting a fantastic display of drumming and other musical instruments along the church wall opposite The Bishop Lacy pub. The race will take the same route through Chudleigh as in 2014: Bottlebridge Hill from Heathfield Lake to Highlands Park; Old Exeter Street; Chudleigh Square (Northern Side); Fore Street; Parade; Station Hill. The race route will be subject to a running road closure to traffic for approximately twenty minutes as the race goes through. IMPORTANT: Parking on the race route will be prohibited between 9am and 4pm on the day of the race. (These times may be adjusted slightly.) Traffic Enforcement Officers will be in the town and any vehicles parked on the route will get a ticket; and those considered a danger will be removed. Parking restrictions apply to all existing parking and loading bays. Alternative parking for residents has been arranged at the car park next to the church; and the leatside car park (Higher Cricketfield) from the evening of Thursday 8th September. Vehicles must vacate these car parks by the evening of Friday 9th September. All houses on the route will be leafleted with details of the parking restrictions etc.
