We have received several enquiries about the new shop front at 12 Fore Street, what used to be the Brainwave charity shop.
You will recall that the shop front was completely demolished by a van earlier this year. This shop front was in aluminium but the replacement appears to be uPVC or, possibly, plastic coated aluminium.
There have been some complaints about the replacement shop front and these were referred to the enforcement officer in the District Council's planning team. They have advised the property owner that a like for like replacement would not have required planning consent. However, since the new shop front is different to the originasl the owner has been advised that they need to submit a planning application for retrospective consent to retain what has been installed. This will not necessarily be straightforward as the shop is situated in the town Conservation Area which means that there are somewhat stricter planning restrictions than would apply elsewhere.
When the planning application is submitted both the Town Council and residents will have the opportunity to comment on whether the replacement shop front should be retained
