Booking essential - please email Helen Parr at email@example.com or telephone 01392 279244.
Learn about these amazing bats and walk through their favourite habitats such as meadows and hedgerows. We’ll finish off with some bat detecting at sunset. Bring a torch. Strong footwear and suitable clothing are advised as the walk will be across rough ground and fields.
Meet at Deer Park Farm: travel west out of Chudleigh, cross the A38 bridge and turn right onto the B3193. Take the 1st right for Trusham; cross the R. Teign and the disused railway bridge, then IMMEDIATELY turn right. Follow the lane up the hill till you see double gates on your left with a Deer Park sign. Drive down to the farm. Car-share if you can!
Thanks to Audrey Compton and John Whetman for kindly hosting this event. The Devon Greater Horseshoe Bat Project is partnership project set up to secure the long-term survival of this endangered species. Hedgerows and farming practices are crucial in supporting foraging areas. The project will enable people to learn about, celebrate and help to care for these enigmatic bats and the landscape they live in.
